Achieving zero intermediate transportation through the establishment of a factory-direct center

Trancom opened the Trancom Kaizu Logistics Center (formerly the Kaizu Facility) as a logistics site in the Chubu region for Koike-ya Inc. By directly connecting the factory and logistics center, we simultaneously achieved a reduction in environmental impact and a boost in logistics efficiency.

Background and Challenges

Previously, Koike-ya’s supply to the Chubu area was overseen by sites in the Kanto and Kansai regions. Construction of a new factory was decided upon as a way to strengthen sales in the area and optimize supply and demand. With this project, rather than simply creating a new production site, there was a pressing need to formulate a logistics solution that connected production and sales end-to-end. This led to the creation of a strategic expansion site to support a balanced east-west inventory.

-Along with Koike-ya’s new Chubu factory, we built a dedicated logistics center on the same site and connected them with a conveyor system.
-This completely eliminated the intermediate transportation (or conveyance) between the factory and logistics center.
-We consolidated and centralized deliveries in the Chubu area via the Kaizu Logistics Center as a distribution hub.

Results

Significant reduction in CO2 emissions

Compared to the previous system, we achieved about 60% reduction in CO2 emissions.

By eliminating intermediate transportation, we achieved environmentally friendly logistics.

Improved logistics efficiency

Creating a seamless process from factory to storage and delivery, we achieved both a shortening of lead time and a reduction in logistics cost.
