In collaboration with automotive battery manufacturer Company A and supplier Company B, Trancom redesigned their logistics network. By introducing 21-meter full trailers and mixed transportation of components and finished products, we were able to both reform work practices to meet applicable laws and reduce the environmental impact.

Background and Challenges

-There was a pressing need to comply with overtime work limits (working less than 14 hours per day) and to address driver shortages and rising costs.
-Typically, finished battery products and battery components were shipped separately, creating a need to optimize carrying efficiency and operating routes.
-They were seeking for a reduction in CO2 emissions across the supply chain.

Solutions

Reviewing logistics design and on-site improvements

1. Round-trip service and mixed loading with full trailers
Shipping that had previously been handled separately was combined for mixed loading on 21-meter full trailers. By combining finished products and components, the load capacity was maximized for each shipment.

2. Consolidation and visualization of locations
We made inventory and the flow of goods visible by fixing C-AREA Tokai as a relay warehouse to consolidate cargo.

3. Improvement of cargo handling to shorten processing times
-Revised the packaging process
-Revised forklift flow
-Added cargo handlers
-Revised shutter operations
-Created a documentation process for product loading and unloading

Results

Improved loading capacity
-Shortened lead time
-Lowered environmental impact
-Shortened processing times
Compared to the previous system, we achieved about 20% reduction in CO2 emissions.
